The Mystery of the Cicada
“The Son of Man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” - Matthew 13:41-43
While sitting with Bre’r Rabbit enjoying some Tobacco, I inquired of Him on the nature of cicadas, and this is what he told me:
The cicadas are the souls in purgatory, their flight into the sky being their redemption from their previous state, into the next life-cycle (Re-incarnation); dwelling in the darkness where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth (recall the cicada’s song) before being born again (shedding it’s skin); before shining forth in righteousness into the light of the SUN to leave it’s mortal coil.
The copperhead often sits at the base of the tree, waiting to snatch the poor souls to keep them in bondage, preventing their escape from the Tree (OKO GA’E).
The sheds of the cicada can be used to summon the restless dead; the wings of the dead cicada can be used to give flight to the dead; but the blood of the copperhead, who consumes them, can give life to the dead who seek revenge.
The song of the cicada can be trapped in a jar; with the hair and a thread from the pillow of an individual; who will be plagued with insomnia, restless dreams, and the inability to rest.
The legs of the cicada, placed inside an individual’s shoe, will lead them only down dead-end paths.
A “medsen” is fashioned from the eyes of the cicada and certain leaves to give a person the sight of the dead, and the ability to see them. Another medsen, composed of 9 living cicadas, is made and buried under a home to cause jumbies (spirits) to haunt the home.
A cicada, in the process of shedding; can be captured in a jar and the soul it contains can be put to work.
